James Van Der Zee was an American photographer renowned for his portraits of Black New Yorkers. He was a prominent figure during the Harlem Renaissance and documented the period extensively. His notable subjects included Marcus Garvey, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, and Countee Cullen.
