Spanish Baroque painter (1565-1628) born in Solsona who helped introduce Caravaggio's tenebrist style to Spain, influencing later masters including Zurbarán. Working primarily in Valencia, he created intensely dramatic religious scenes that contributed to the aesthetic foundations of Spanish Golden Age painting.
