Italian painter Giovanni Antonio Canal (1697-1768) from Venice, renowned as a vedutista, a master painter of precise, atmospheric cityscapes. A central figure in the 18th-century Venetian school, he depicted Venice, Rome, and London with meticulous topographical accuracy while retaining poetic sensibility. He was also an accomplished etcher who significantly influenced European landscape painting.
