The Dallas Museum of Art will open its doors for the first Late Night at the Museum of the new season on Friday, September 4, from 7 to 11 p.m., pairing after-hours access to the museum with live music, cocktails, art-making activities and special exhibition viewing. The event is presented in partnership with Visit Dallas and is also presented in partnership with Dallasites101, according to the museum’s event information.
The evening gives ticket holders access to the entire museum, described by the DMA as four floors and more than 5,000 years of art. Admission options include free entry for DMA members, $25 general admission and a VIP Late Night Lounge ticket priced at $112 for members or $125 for the public. The museum says the new VIP lounge is designed as an intimate retreat with gourmet bites, appetizers, petite desserts, wines, private tours and additional art experiences.
The museum’s current special exhibitions, 'Samurai to the Imperial Court: Japanese Metalwork' and 'X Marks the Spot: Contemporary Screenprinting at Brand X Editions', are included in the price of admission. The DMA says the event will also feature live music, tours, live artist demonstrations and hands-on art making throughout the night.
Programming is spread across multiple spaces in the museum, with live performances taking place throughout the night in the Concourse, Hamon Atrium and galleries. In the Concourse, Arts & Craft After Dark runs from 7:00 to 10:30 p.m. and invites visitors to make a zine after purchasing a cocktail at the DMA Cafe, while supplies last.
Additional activities include Sketching in the Galleries from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the Level 4 landing of the American Gallery, a Pop-Up Art Spot in the European Art Galleries on Level 2 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and an Artist-Led Mini-Workshop from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Eagle Family Plaza, where visitors can try screenprinting with Deep Ellum’s Lewellyn’s Print Shop and take home a screenprinted artwork.
Curatorial staff will lead guided tours focused on 'X Marks the Spot: Contemporary Screenprinting at Brand X Editions' at 7:30, 7:45, 8:30 and 8:45 p.m. Space is limited and the museum says tours are first come, first served, with attendees asked to arrive 15 minutes early to reserve a spot and receive a headset. A Creativity Challenge is also scheduled from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Horchow Auditorium Lobby, where teams will work with unexpected materials in a timed design exercise.
The DMA says Late Night at the Museum will continue through five dates this season: September 4, November 13, January 15, March 12 and May 14.
