Creative Room Art Space in West End, Brisbane, is showing ‘Reflections on the Infinite’, a solo exhibition of new watercolours and selected silk paintings by Violetta Kurbanova. The gallery gives the run as 7 August to 13 September 2026, opened with a free RSVP evening on Friday 7 August from 6pm to 8pm.

The gallery describes a body of work built on mist, light and endless horizons, made by working with the fluid and unpredictable movement of pigment across wet paper so that each painting develops into what it calls an atmospheric meditation on landscape, memory and the fleeting moment. Landscapes, historic architecture and quiet natural scenes make up the subjects, and the gallery singles out “delicate layers, luminous washes” and the textures of granulating pigments as the technical core of the show.

A substantial part of the exhibition is given to pigment granulation, and the gallery says Kurbanova was on hand at the opening to discuss the technique. Alongside the watercolours on paper — among them ‘Rainforest’, ‘Arches of Ash’, ‘Golden Reflections’, ‘Where the Ground Remembers’, ‘The Shore’s Edge’, ‘Shadow and Spirit’, ‘Sunrise Maroubra Beach’ and ‘The Silent Alley’ — a separate section presents four silk paintings, ‘Zephir’, the two-panel ‘Koi’ diptych and ‘Irises’.

Kurbanova is returning to the gallery, which describes her as one of Australia’s leading contemporary watercolour artists and as head of the International Watercolour Society Australia. The exhibition is presented as a case for watercolour as a contemporary medium capable of “extraordinary depth, sensitivity, and expression”. The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday, 12pm to 6pm, with other days by appointment.
