Pellas Gallery in Boston will open ‘Latin Archives’ with a reception on August 14, 2026, introducing what the gallery describes as its first exhibition dedicated exclusively to Latin American art. The show brings together works from a private collection by 12 artists from Argentina, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Panama, and many of the works will be shown publicly for the first time.
The exhibition is set to run at Pellas Gallery, 73 Newbury Street, from the evening opening reception on August 14, 2026, from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. The gallery’s announcement places the project in the context of a collection assembled over decades, and says the works span the period from 1980 to 2009. The preview materials also present the show as an opportunity for collectors, curators and art enthusiasts to encounter a concentrated selection of works from a single private holding.
According to the gallery, ‘Latin Archives’ is organized around themes including magical realism, surrealism, landscape, memory, migration, identity and social narrative. The framing suggests a survey of artistic approaches rather than a single stylistic school, with the collection used to trace distinct perspectives on Latin America’s cultural and artistic legacy. The gallery also says the exhibition highlights artists whose work has appeared at major museums, international biennials and leading institutions around the world.
The email materials accompanying the announcement single out several artists in the collection. Among them is Brooke Alfaro of Panama, whose work ‘Ay Mama Mia, Mama Mia’ is included in the archive. The gallery describes Alfaro as one of Panama’s leading contemporary artists and notes that his work has been shown at the Singapore Biennale, Prague Biennale and Venice Biennale, where he represented Panama in the country’s first official pavilion in 2024. The materials say his practice includes painting, installation and video, and that it engages identity, social commentary and cultural memory.
Also highlighted is Argentine artist Claudio Gallina, represented by ‘Haciendo Equilibrio’. The gallery says Gallina has built an international career of more than thirty solo exhibitions across Latin America, Europe and the United States, with exhibitions at the Museum of Latin American Art in Los Angeles, the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico and Centro Cultural Recoleta in Buenos Aires. His work has also appeared at art fairs including Art Miami, PINTA New York, ARTBO and ArteBA.
The archive further includes ‘Town with the Smell of Everything’ by Gonzalo Endara Crow, whom the gallery identifies as one of Ecuador’s most celebrated twentieth-century artists. The materials describe Endara Crow, who lived from 1936 to 1996, as internationally recognized for poetic interpretations of magical realism inspired by the Andes. Another featured artist is Vicente Hernández, whose ‘La Redención del Sur’ is presented as part of the collection. The gallery says Hernández, born in Batabanó, Cuba, creates paintings that combine symbolism, mythology and magical realism, and that his work has been exhibited throughout the Americas and Europe, including at DA2 Contemporary Art Center in Salamanca, Spain, and in Latin American sales at Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Phillips in New York.
Pellas Gallery’s announcement emphasizes that ‘Latin Archives’ offers a rare public presentation of works from the private collection, with preview catalogue and private viewing requests available through the gallery. The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, August 14, 2026, at Pellas Gallery, 73 Newbury Street, Boston, from 6:30 to 9:00 pm.
