The Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires has set a series of public literary activities in August 2026 around writer Beñat Sarasola’s residency. The programs include an interview, a poetry reading, a library conversation and a reading of an unpublished text, spread across dates from August 5 to August 27 in Buenos Aires.

Sarasola is the 24th author to take part in Malba’s Residencia de Escritores Malba, or REM, the museum’s writing residency program organized by its literature department. According to Malba, he is also the first Euskara-language author and the first writer from the Basque Country to join the initiative, which began in 2018 and is carried out with institutional support from Ampersand. His residency in Buenos Aires is also backed by the Etxepare Euskal Institutua.

The residency page says Sarasola arrived in Buenos Aires at the end of July and will use the stay to work on a new nouvelle titled 'Zaharberritzea' ('Restauración'). Malba describes the project as a work in progress that explores the ambiguity of seduction and the transformation of desire into other kinds of human connection. The museum says the text also engages with contemporary narrative traditions and with a museum-like understanding of space as an active environment for creation.

The first public event is an interview titled 'Beñat Sarasola en Residencia' on Wednesday, August 5, at 7 pm in the Malba Library. Sarasola will speak with Magdalena Arrupe of Malba Literatura and Sebastián Amaya of the Escuela de Humanidades at UNSAM. Malba notes that the event is free with prior registration and will include book sales and a toast.

A second public appearance follows on Saturday, August 8, at 7 pm, when Sarasola will take part in a poetry reading at Terraza FED, held at C Complejo Art Media on Avenida Corrientes 6271. The reading is part of the 2026 Feria de Editores, which runs from August 6 to 9 at the same venue. The lineup announced by Malba includes Alejandro Crotto, María Malusardi, Tomás Fadel and Milagros Pérez Morales, with Lucía Igoly and Pierre Froideveaux as moderators.

On Friday, August 14, at 7 pm, Sarasola is scheduled for a library talk at the Biblioteca del Centro Laurak Bat on Avenida Belgrano 1144 in Buenos Aires. The month concludes on Thursday, August 27, when he is set to read an unpublished text at Ampersand, on Ombú 3091. Malba says the reading will present work written during his stay in Buenos Aires.

The residency sits within a broader August literature program at Malba that also includes the museum’s participation in the Feria de Editores with a stand of its own and the presentation of 'Literaturas latinoamericanas en transición (1980-2018)' in the museum’s auditorium on August 12. Within that schedule, Sarasola’s events form the public-facing part of a five-week stay in Buenos Aires that Malba has positioned as part of its continuing literature program for 2026.
