The Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo has opened registrations for 'Como fazer planos museológicos', a six-session online course led by Claudia Vendramini Reis that runs from 18 August to 3 September 2026. The class is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11 a.m. and is presented as a theoretical and practical introduction to the preparation of museum plans under Brazilian law.
The course is part of the museum’s August programming, which the institution says brings together classes on creative processes, the relationship between art and literature, museum planning and cultural mediation. On its courses page, MAM São Paulo says the broader programme is organized around four thematic axes: Narratives of Art History, Cultural Management, Contemporary Culture Themes and Artistic Practices. The museum also notes that its headquarters are temporarily closed because of renovation work on the Parque Ibirapuera marquee, while course activities continue through online formats.
According to the course description, 'Como fazer planos museológicos' will address the context of museums in Brazil and methods for developing museum management strategies in a collective and collaborative way. The curriculum combines conceptual bases with case studies and practical activities intended to map approaches to museum governance that are described as democratic, continuous, stable and sustainable. The course material also frames the programme around the Brazilian Estatuto dos Museus, which requires museums in the country to draw up, implement and update museum plans.
The syllabus is divided into six sessions. The first introduces museum plans and outlines Brazilian legislation, including Law No. 11.904/2009, which established the Estatuto dos Museus, Law No. 11.906/2009, which created the Instituto Brasileiro de Museus, and Decree No. 8.124, which regulates provisions of both laws. Later meetings turn to strategic planning, diagnosis and objectives, and the use of tools such as SWOT, identified in Portuguese in the course text as FOFA, for strengths, opportunities, weaknesses and threats.
Case studies mentioned by the museum include the Pavilhão das Culturas Brasileiras, the Museu de Arte Primitiva de Assis in São Paulo state, and museum plans from São Paulo art museums, including MAM and Pinacoteca. The final sessions focus on institutional programmes covering research, collections, exhibitions, communication, security, educational and sociocultural actions, personnel management, public engagement and architectural-urban planning, along with project development, monitoring and review of the museum plan.
MAM identifies the course as open to general audiences, as well as students and professionals from municipal, state or private museums and people in continuing education in museology. The fee is listed as R$ 480, plus fees, and the course is delivered live online through a videoconferencing platform, with recordings available only for a limited time. Participants can request a Libras interpreter with seven business days’ notice by email.
Claudia Vendramini Reis is named as the instructor. The museum says she is a professor in the postgraduate programme of the Centro de Estudos Latino-Americanos sobre Cultura e Comunicação at ECA-USP, a master’s graduate in Museology from PPGMUS-USP, former production coordinator for the 29th Bienal de São Paulo in 2010, former educational programme manager at Fundação Bienal de São Paulo from 2017 to 2019, a member of ICOM Brasil and, since 2023, coordinator of the educational nucleus at Casa de Cultura do Parque.
