Fuller Craft Museum will present ‘Stories on the Planet: Asagi Maeda’ from June 27 to November 8, 2026, at its Brockton, Massachusetts venue. The exhibition focuses on the wearable art of Japanese metalsmith Asagi Maeda, whose work the museum describes as finely detailed miniature sculptural worlds designed to be worn on the body.
According to the museum, Maeda’s pieces are made from wood, plexiglass, resin, enamel, silver, gold and precious stones, and are often intricately engraved or enameled. The exhibition highlights figurative subjects including swimmers, musicians, readers and dancers, using those characters to convey joy, tenderness and sorrow through small-scale objects. Fuller Craft says the works reflect everyday life while suggesting that even the smallest forms can contain expansive emotional and visual worlds.
Maeda was born in Tokyo in 1977 and began making art in childhood, inspired by her mother’s art classes and by her family’s connection to pearl-making. She studied sculpture at Tokyo Zokei University and later jewelry at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. The museum notes that her practice bridges fine art and craft traditions, and that she is now based in Tokyo, where she continues to create and exhibit internationally while teaching wax carving at Jyoshibi Art University.
The exhibition arrives in a museum whose programming and exhibitions emphasize contemporary craft across media. Fuller Craft Museum also regularly combines exhibitions with public programs, and its summer calendar includes extended Thursday hours under the ‘Fuller@5’ banner. Those evenings are scheduled to run through July and August, with the museum staying open until 7 p.m. and offering special events and activities.
Within that summer program, Fuller Craft lists opportunities to encounter Maeda’s work alongside hands-on activities and other exhibitions. On August 18, the museum’s ‘August Adventures at Fuller Craft: Tiny Worlds, Big Stories’ program will include spotlight tours of ‘Stories on the Planet: Asagi Maeda’ and ‘Forest of Here: Jeila Gueramian,’ along with DIY zine and diorama activities. The day is presented with the Highland Street Foundation.
The museum’s event listings also pair the exhibition with family programming during the summer months, reflecting Fuller Craft’s mix of gallery visits, tours and participatory activities.
