The Fitchburg Art Museum will stay open later on August 6, with extended hours from 12 to 7 p.m. and a cluster of free public programs tied to its FAM at Night series. According to the museum’s upcoming-programs page, the evening will include the outdoor Fitchburg Farmers’ Market, a make-art drop-in in the courtyard, the Fitchburg Cultural Council’s annual public input meeting, and a live presentation from The Openest Mic.
The museum’s listing describes the day as part of Fitchburg’s First Thursdays. From 3 to 5:30 p.m., visitors can shop the outdoor farmers’ market in partnership with Growing Places. The market programming is supported by an endowment given to FAM in memory of Martha Malm. In the same window, Make Art @ FAM: Summer Edition will offer free drop-in artmaking outside in the courtyard, where visitors can create and take home their own work. The museum says all ages are welcome and no sign-up is required.
Later in the evening, from 5 to 7 p.m., the Fitchburg Cultural Council will hold its public input meeting at the museum as part of FAM at Night. The council says the session is intended to help prioritize grants for the benefit of Fitchburg residents in the next grant cycle. The museum’s program notice invites people interested in grants or in joining the council to learn about the process, meet councilors and former grantees, and share ideas about the types of events and programs they would like to see funded.
The Openest Mic also appears in the August 6 lineup with a free outdoor showcase beginning at 5:45 p.m. The museum’s schedule says the event will present live music on the museum grounds during golden hour, and that visitors are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair and settle in under the open sky. The organization’s earlier March listing for the same partnership identified The Openest Mic as a poetry reading series called ‘Words from the Burg,’ but the August listing specifically names ‘The Openest Mic Showcase, Music at the Museum.’
FAM’s program calendar shows that these first-Thursday events are a recurring feature of the museum’s public schedule, often combining access to the building with community activities, outdoor gathering and family-oriented artmaking. The August 6 listing sits alongside other summer programming on the same calendar, including artist talks and free drop-in studio activities. The site also notes that accessibility accommodations, modifications or preferences can be requested in advance by email.
The museum’s listing for August 6 is posted on its ‘Upcoming Programs’ page, which lists the day’s extended hours as part of FAM at Night and gives the public times for each activity: the farmers’ market from 3 to 5:30 p.m., Make Art @ FAM in the courtyard from 3 to 5:30 p.m., the Fitchburg Cultural Council public input meeting from 5 to 7 p.m., and The Openest Mic Showcase from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m.
