The Los Angeles County Museum of Art has announced the August edition of its Third Weekends program, a four-day slate of public events scheduled for Thursday, August 13, through Sunday, August 16. The lineup brings together talks, tours, films, music, classes and hands-on activities at LACMA, continuing the museum’s weekend programming model with a mix of ticketed and free offerings.

The museum’s announcement frames the series as a way to invite visitors to “discover new perspectives” through direct participation. August’s schedule is broad in scope, moving from art history and contemporary practice to movement, food and social forms of gathering. The program is also timed alongside current LACMA exhibition and collection-related context noted in the museum’s materials, including ‘Collecting Impressionism at LACMA’ and ‘Fashioning Chinese Women: Empire to Modernity’, both identified in the institution’s program listings.

The weekend opens on Thursday evening with ‘Artists Take on L.A: rafa esparza, Shizu Saldamando, and Susan Silton’, a panel billed for 7 pm with admission listed at $10, or $8 for members. On Friday morning, ‘Art + Meditation: Collecting Impressionism at LACMA’ is set for 10 am and is free with RSVP required, followed in the evening by ‘Jazz at LACMA: Joshua White Quartet’, also free. The museum’s programming note lists the jazz event as part of its regular public offerings.

Saturday’s schedule is the fullest single day. It begins at noon with ‘Let’s Play: Chess at LACMA’, then moves to a 3 pm talk, ‘Liz Glynn After Rodin’. A figure-drawing workshop, ‘Impressionism and Ballet’, is scheduled for 5 pm with a $40 fee, or $35 for members. Later events include ‘The Art of the New York Times Obituary’ at 6 pm, ‘Latin Sounds: Luis Conte Band’ at 6 pm, and a free screening of ‘The Toll of the Sea’ at 7:30 pm, each with RSVP or admission details listed in the museum notice.

Sunday’s program shifts toward movement, making, and cultural practice. ‘Shadowboxing Class at LACMA’ is scheduled for 9 am, followed by ‘Sketch in the Sculpture Garden’ and ‘Japanese Tea Ceremony: Introduction and Tasting’, both at 11 am. At 5 pm, ‘Cooking with LACMA: Why Meal Trains Matter’ is slated as a $10 event, or $8 for members, and the weekend closes with ‘Humberto Leon and Fashioning Chinese Women’ at 7 pm. That talk is free, with RSVP required.

The museum also lists two additional August events under the same announcement: ‘Mindful Monday: Cultivating Empathy and Mindfulness @ Home’ on Monday, August 17, at 4 pm online, and ‘Mindful Monday in the David Geffen Galleries’ at 6:30 pm at LACMA. The publication notes that some exhibitions and education programs connected to the schedule have separate support listings, including ‘Collecting Impressionism at LACMA’ and ‘Fashioning Chinese Women: Empire to Modernity’, but the August Third Weekends slate stands as the main public-programming draw in the museum’s notice.
