Verona’s Musei Civici are presenting 'CHIMERA', an exhibition of sculptures by Novello Finotti at Palazzo Forti, with the show running from 10 July to 20 September 2026. The project is described as the first appointment in the new exhibition format 'Materia | Volumi in dialogo', and it is being presented by the Comune di Verona, Musei Civici – Galleria d'Arte Moderna Achille Forti and Fondazione Cariverona. The exhibition occupies the historic Sala delle Vasche on the ground floor of Palazzo Forti.
According to the museum, the renewed use of the space follows restoration work promoted by the city administration as part of a broader process to return Palazzo Forti to public use. The setting is intended to host projects devoted to contemporary sculpture and to stage them in dialogue with the building’s historic identity. In that framework, 'CHIMERA' is positioned as both an exhibition and a reopening of a notable room within the palace.
Finotti is identified by the museum as one of the major figures in Italian contemporary sculpture and as an artist from Verona with an internationally recognized profile. The text stresses his technical precision and inventive approach, describing a practice shaped by continual metamorphosis of form, where classical memory, symbolic suggestions and contemporary sensitivity coexist. The show title refers to the ancient mythological creature made up of different beings, and the museum uses that idea as a lens for reading Finotti’s work, in which apparently incompatible elements are fused into a poetic synthesis.
The exhibition brings together works from the artist’s studio, from the collection of Fondazione Cariverona, and from public and private collections. It offers an overview spanning the 1960s to more recent productions. Among the works named in the source are 'Omaggio a Kafka' (1972), 'Au revoir mon amour' (2011), 'Nascita' (1987), 'Ventaglio di mani' (2026) and works dedicated to the figure of Juliet. The museum says the selection is meant to show both the coherence of Finotti’s research and its capacity for renewal across time.
The exhibition is curated by Patrizia Nuzzo and Isabella Brezigar. It is open free of charge, with guided visits available by reservation by the day before. From 10 July to 29 August 2026, opening days are Friday and Saturday from 6 pm to midnight; from 5 to 20 September, opening days are Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm. The inauguration takes place on Friday 10 July at 8.30 pm.
A related guided tour is listed for Saturday 31 July at 6.30 pm. Palazzo Forti is located at Volto Due Mori 4, with access from Corso Sant’Anastasia, in Verona.
