Malba will host the presentation of 'Los laberintos de Borges: entre el caos y el cosmos', a new title in its Cuadernos collection by Carlos Gamerro, on July 8 at the museum’s auditorium in Buenos Aires. The event is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. and is listed as running until 10:00 p.m., with online reservation marked as full and any remaining seats to be released in person on a first-come, first-served basis.
The launch is being organized by Malba Literatura and brings Gamerro together with Borges specialists Lucas Adur and Juan Torbidoni, as well as Carla Scarpatti, editor of the collection. The museum describes the book as part of Cuadernos, a series created to extend the reach of Malba Literatura’s Formación program, which has offered courses and seminars since 2001.
The publication is tied to the 40th anniversary of Jorge Luis Borges’s death, and Malba notes another point of chronology in the event’s framing: it comes 20 years after the first course Gamerro taught on the Argentine author at the museum. According to the museum’s event page, the book gathers a synthesis of the classes Gamerro taught at Malba between 2006 and 2026.
The title itself points to one of Borges’s enduring literary figures: the universe as labyrinth. Malba’s description presents that image as paradoxical, suggesting that if the universe is a labyrinth it must have a center and a coherent form, while chaos would be the truly unsettling condition. The event page also cites Borges’s own line from 'Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius' describing literature as 'a labyrinth destined to be deciphered by men.'
Malba Literatura’s page situates the launch within a broader July 2026 program focused on books, seminars and public literary events. The museum says its literature department aims to promote contemporary writing through meetings, publications, talks and courses, while also maintaining the Residencia de Escritores Malba, which began in 2018 and brings foreign authors to Buenos Aires for five-week stays.
Gamerro is described by Malba as a writer, translator and teacher. His published fiction includes novels such as 'Las Islas', 'El secreto y las voces' and 'La aventura de los bustos de Eva', while his essays include 'Borges y los clásicos', 'Ulises. Claves de lectura' and 'Shakespeare en Malvinas'. The event page also identifies Adur as a scholar with a doctoral thesis on Borges and Christianity, and Torbidoni as a philosopher and literary comparatist who has coordinated academic volumes on Borges and other Argentine and European thinkers.
