The Premio Cairo award ceremony will take place on Monday 12 October at Milan’s Museo della Permanente, followed by a public exhibition running from 13 to 18 October.
The competition is for artists under 40 selected by the editorial staff of ARTE, the magazine published by Cairo Editore. The 20 artists selected for the 25th edition are Mattia Barbalaco, Ornella Cardillo, Luca Ceccherini, Nina Ćeranić, Martina Cinotti, Lorenzo Conforti, Luca Gioacchino Di Bernardo, Lorenzo Ermini, Maria Elisa Ferraris, Alessandro Fogo, Camilla Gurgone, Guglielmo Maggini, Davide Mancini Zanchi, Miriam Marafioti, Silvia Paci, Peng Shuai Paolo, Giotto Riva, Victoria Stoian, Simone Stuto and Annalaura Tamburrini.
Each artist will present a previously unpublished work, assessed by a jury chaired by Bruno Corà. The winning work will be announced on 12 October. Its creator will receive €25,000, and the work will enter the Premio Cairo collection.
The ceremony will also award a career prize to Nino Migliori, described in the announcement as a pioneer of visual research and European photography.
The free exhibition will present the 20 new works alongside the complete Premio Cairo collection of works that won previous editions. It will also include 'I grandi autoritratti per Arte', a group of 14 self-portraits made in the 1980s by internationally known artists for the covers of Bolaffi Arte, later renamed ARTE; the announcement names Bay, Consagra, Conti, Guttuso, Kushner, Melotti, Morlotti, Oppenheim, Turcato and Vespignani among them.
