‘The Etruscans: From the Heart of Ancient Italy’ is on view from October 31, 2026, through March 14, 2027, in the Cowden Gallery, with approximately 130 objects lent by museums in Italy, Europe, the United States, and Canada.

The exhibition highlights the Etruscans’ highly skilled craft production and contacts with other cultures around the Mediterranean, as well as their language, religious rituals, burial practices, luxurious grave goods, and aspects of daily life including banqueting and the lives of Etruscan women.

It ends by exploring the Etruscans’ significant influence on ancient Roman society.

The exhibition has been organized by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco in collaboration with the San Antonio Museum of Art.

Among the listed objects is a gold Etruscan bracelet from Caere’s Sorbo necropolis and the Regolini–Galassi Tomb, dated 675–650 BC. Another is a terracotta Etruscan stamnos, or storage jar, from Vulci, dated 360–350 BC and decorated with a griffin combat. The exhibition also lists a terracotta Greek hydria, or water jar, attributed to the Eagle Painter, active in Caere, and dated 520–510 BC.
