Towada Art Center says Yayoi Kusama died on 14 August 2026 at the age of 97 and is organising ‘KUSAMA FOREVER (1929–2026〜∞)’ as a programme of mourning and tribute. The programme is devoted to remembering Kusama through a series of film, conversation, artwork-walk and lecture events listed by the museum.
The first programme, ‘KUSAMA FOREVER 1 – Film and Conversation Evening,’ will take place on 3 October 2026 from 18:00 to 21:00 at the museum’s cube cafe&shop. The event listing gives the programme’s date, hours and venue as part of the Towada Art Center’s schedule for ‘KUSAMA FOREVER’.
After the screening, the museum will hold the dialogue ‘草間彌生氏と私’, in which participants will discuss Kusama. Sachiko Shikata, director of Towada Art Center, will moderate the discussion.
Kusama’s work ‘愛はとこしえ十和田でうたう’ (2010), made for Towada, is permanently exhibited in the museum’s art plaza. The programme’s second entry, ‘KUSAMA FOREVER 2 – げんびさんぽ《愛はとこしえ十和田でうたう》’, is scheduled for 11 October 2026 from 11:00 to 12:00.
