The exhibition presents the distinctive career of the painter, costume designer and set designer Giannis Metsikof through a significant group of his costumes and paintings. It is co-organized with the Region of Central Macedonia and included in the program of the 61st Dimitria of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.
Metsikof’s career as a painter, costume designer and set designer is represented through a significant ensemble of costumes and paintings. His painting is presented through works in mixed techniques, with particular emphasis on portraiture.
The costumes on display mark significant collaborations with the National Theatre, including the productions ‘Volpone’, ‘Medea’, ‘Oedipus Rex’ and ‘Prometheus Bound’.
The exhibition also includes costumes from collaborations with the Greek National Opera, the Athens Concert Hall and the State Theatre of Northern Greece, from 1987 onward. The Greek National Opera collaborations include ‘Swan Lake’, ‘Fedora’ and ‘Salome’; those with the Athens Concert Hall include ‘Ariadne auf Naxos’, ‘Macbeth’ and ‘Celestina’; and those with the State Theatre of Northern Greece include ‘Electra’ and ‘Samia’.
The exhibition is being held in collaboration with the National Theatre, the Greek National Opera, the Athens Concert Hall and the State Theatre of Northern Greece.
