Albany Center Gallery's 47th Annual Photography Regional is in its final weeks in downtown Albany, New York, where it remains on view until Saturday 31 October.
The Regional has been held since the late 1970s and is open to photographers working within 125 miles of Albany, bringing together emerging and established practitioners and treating photography both as an art form and as a way of documenting the region. The gallery hosts the exhibition every three years.
This edition is organised in two parts. A salon-style show includes all submitted works, while the Select exhibition presents 22 photographers chosen by the jurors Nick Argyros and Cindy Schultz, with juried awards for selected works. In total, the gallery says more than 200 works are on display. Among the photographers in the Select exhibition are Ronda Anderson, David Brickman, Carrie Brown, Chuck Miller, Joe Putrock, Carol Remington, Linda Tommasulo and Stacey Whiteley.
Alongside the contemporary photographs, the exhibition includes a group of historic cameras and photographic equipment from the first 50 years of the medium, lent by Argyros and the Troy Photo Center.
The show opened on 4 September with an artists' reception and awards ceremony that, according to the gallery, drew more than 500 visitors.
Admission is free, and the exhibition can be visited Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 5 pm. A virtual tour is also available online for those unable to see it in person.
