The programme lists the lecture ‘Otto Dix – Le spectre de la décadence’ for Thursday 15 October 2026 at 18:30 at the Auditorium Wendel.
The event is part of the monthly ‘Introduction to Art History’ series, which meets once a month on a Thursday to address an artist, an artwork, a movement or a current of thought that has marked art history.
Elsa De Smet, the institution’s head of public development, communications and patronage, is named as the lecturer.
The programme highlights Dix’s 1920 painting ‘Souvenirs de la galerie des glaces à Bruxelles’, in which the artist depicts the scandalous character of war through an apoplectic general who is part human and part automaton, drinks champagne and flirts with a voluptuous woman.
In the painting, the viewpoints fragment in a nauseating intoxication, a modern work through the plastic elements it brings together and contemporary through its subject.
