‘Le design selon Pierre Paulin (1927-2009)’ will end on Sunday, November 1, according to an invitation to celebrate the exhibition’s close. The exhibition is described as Musée Fabre’s first major design exhibition.
The presentation includes Paulin’s ‘Mushroom Chair,’ ‘Ribbon Chair’ and ‘Tongue Chair,’ alongside the ‘Fumoir de l’Élysée’ and ‘Vidéo Barnum.’
Paulin was born in Paris in July 1927 and died in Montpellier in June 2009.
Musée Fabre presents Paulin as one of the greatest French designers of the 20th century, linking his work to the history of the true emergence of design as a discipline in France after the Second World War, when the country was undergoing reconstruction.
His forms embrace, and in some cases anticipate, the societal aspirations of the 1960s, including those associated with the baby-boom generation and pop culture. The ‘Mushroom Chair’ dates to 1959, the ‘Ribbon Chair’ to 1966 and the ‘Tongue Chair’ to 1968; these works continue to embody modernity and an ageless future in the collective imagination.
