Markowicz Fine Art has announced its representation of abstract painter Harry Moody. The gallery currently has eight paintings on display in Laguna Niguel, California.
The presentation highlights works including ‘Zen Landscape,’ ‘Freefall,’ ‘Abstract Seasons’ and ‘Zen Now.’ Moody is a German-born abstract painter based in Los Angeles; he was born in Wiesbaden and trained at the Städelschule in Frankfurt.
His paintings develop through a balance of deliberate decisions and unexpected effects, with each change in the surface creating conditions for the next.
One band of color crosses another; a scraped passage exposes an earlier layer; and dense pigment gives way to an almost transparent field. The surface is not simply filled with marks but records their encounters, including places where a gesture has been interrupted, revised or allowed to remain.
Photographs taken during walks in nature also provide material for reflection, though the resulting paintings do not depend on a recognizable landscape.
