The Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana presents an artistic and spiritual itinerary through the image of Saint Francis, using some of the most significant and often little-known works from its immense cultural patrimony.
Among the works on view is a particularly elaborate drawing from the Codice Resta, in which the artist imagines the scene of Saint Francis’s death inside a building.
The account of Francis’s death says that he wanted a passage from the Gospel of John to be read to him and the celebrated Canticle of the Creatures to be recited, ending significantly with the stanza dedicated to ‘sister death’.
Through video, visitors can also view many other works on Franciscan subjects that could not be exhibited to the public.
