Dr. Monica Obniski is scheduled to deliver the Isamu Noguchi Lecture on Wednesday, September 23, at 6 PM.
Obniski is the Curator of Decorative Arts and Design at the High Museum of Art and will serve as the program’s guest lecturer. The lecture focuses on Isamu Noguchi’s engagement with the space-shaping possibilities of design, examining how his practice extended across architecture, industrial design, ceramics, furniture, lighting, stage sets and landscape design. The discussion also includes landscape projects such as playgrounds, fountains, plazas and gardens.
The program presents Noguchi’s design practice through three themes: ‘Making Multiples,’ ‘Elements of Architecture’ and ‘Shaping Spaces.’ As part of its discussion of shaping spaces, the lecture will address Hart Plaza in Detroit.
The lecture is free with general admission.
