‘The Last Supper’ Exhibition Set for October 3, 2026–October 24, 2027

The presentation at the Grand Rapids Art Museum will mark only the second time all the plates created by Green will be exhibited together.

‘The Last Supper’ features nearly 1,000 hand-painted ceramic plates illustrating the final-meal choices of people on death row in the United States.

Artist Julie Green, who was born in 1961 and died in 2021, spent twenty-two years creating the large-scale art installation. She painted images of the final meals on found ceramic plates with cobalt blue mineral paint and then re-fired them in a kiln.

The works include Julie Green’s ‘The Last Supper [California 17 January 2006],’ made in 2006 with paint on found ceramic plates. They also include ‘The Last Supper [Federal 16 January 2021],’ made in 2021 with paint on found ceramic plates. A third listed work is ‘The Last Supper [Oklahoma 29 April 2014],’ made in 2014 with paint on found ceramic plates.

A selection from ‘The Last Supper’ was exhibited during ArtPrize 2015 at Kendall College of Art and Design, where it was shortlisted for the 3D Juried Prize.
