On November 1, Amézquita will publicly activate the work by continuing to add the names of those who have passed away since 2023. The event is scheduled for November 1, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the AD&A Museum.
‘Gemidos de la Tierra’ currently consists of twelve panels honoring the names of more than 200 immigrants who died while in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody between 2003 and 2023.
The ongoing work casts the names of people who died in ICE custody in soil sourced throughout the United States.
The exhibition situates Amézquita’s work around land-based methodologies and ancestral material knowledge while examining migration and collective memory. Amézquita’s exhibition at the AD&A Museum is on view through November 29.
