Pallant House Gallery describes 'Barbara Hepworth and Greece' as the first exhibition dedicated to Hepworth’s deep connection with Greece. The exhibition is scheduled to run from 21 November 2026 to 2 May 2027.
It focuses on Hepworth’s journey through Greece and its islands in 1954, which the gallery says renewed her artistic vision at a crucial point in her life.
The exhibition brings together extracts from Hepworth’s diary from the trip with major sculptures, paintings, drawings and prints.
It examines how Greece’s radiant light, vibrant colours, dramatic landscapes, ancient architecture and elemental forces shaped her work.
Featured works include 'Curved Form (Delphi)' (1955), described by the gallery as Hepworth’s Greek masterpiece, and 'Pelagos' (1961).
The page also lists 'Aegean' (1956), 'Delphi (Stone Form)' (1960) and 'Pierced Form (Santorin)' (1963).
Hepworth is presented as one of Britain’s most celebrated artists, renowned for her pioneering abstract sculpture.
