Portland Art Museum will screen Agnès Varda’s 1988 film ‘Jane B. by Agnès V.’ on September 13, 2026, at its Whitsell Auditorium. The 1 hour 37 minute programme, scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m., is presented by Director Fits as part of a series on Fashion and Film.
The film features Jane Birkin in conversation with Varda. The museum introduces the pair as artists converging around aging, art and achievement, and describes the result as a free-flowing portrait with “incredible style.” Birkin is identified on the event page as an actor, muse and icon; Varda as an artist, filmmaker and icon.
A description by Criterion Collection, reproduced on the museum’s event page, calls ‘Jane B. by Agnès V.’ “a shared reverie between two women” that collapses “the boundaries between artist and subject.” Criterion characterises the film as made in a spirit of “pure, uninhibited play.”
The screening is listed as not rated.
