PoMo will open a dedicated Catherine Opie artist room on its second floor on 9 September 2026, with several newly acquired works entering the PoMo Collection.
The room will be presented together with ‘Catherine Opie – Mountains Don't Know Their Names’. PoMo says the two presentations offer a broad view of an artistic practice that has had major significance for understandings of identity, community and representation.
Opie is one of the most recognised photographers of our time, according to the museum. For more than three decades, she has used photography to explore identity, community, belonging and representation.
She is particularly known for portraits of people and communities that have historically been less visible in art history and public life, including LGBTQI+ communities in the United States. The new room brings those newly acquired works into PoMo’s collection while extending the museum’s presentation of Opie’s work.
