Galería Duque Arango has announced the final week of ‘Se siente más como un sueño que un recuerdo’. Its presentation names paintings by Azull Martínez, Juan Posada Sierra, Nector Mejía and Limán Zúñiga, including Martínez’s ‘Arcos habitantes’ and Zúñiga’s ‘Estado de conciencia’, both from 2025.
In ‘Arcos habitantes’, Martínez depicts a couple joined in an embrace at the centre of a colourful geometric space. Deep blue and warm tones form a dreamlike setting around the figures. The work describes architecture as a refuge and dance as a language, making movement and emotion central to its image of the couple.
Zúñiga’s ‘Estado de conciencia’ centres on a figure drinking tea in a symbolic scene inhabited by human, animal and ritual elements. The contemplative daily gesture becomes a metaphor for mental state, introspection and a conscious pause in relation to the contemporary world.
The painting combines hyperrealist execution with surrealist elements. Deep-blue vegetation and a vivid yellow kimono establish its colour contrast, while details including animal fur textures and textile patterns contribute to what is described as a calm, strange and silent atmosphere. The work raises questions around wakefulness and sleep, identity and representation, and nature and culture.
Zúñiga’s wider practice addresses memory, identity and territory within and beyond the context of Colombia’s Caribbean region.
