Rachel Hahn examines Breadwoman, Anna Homler’s performance persona, in the September 2026 issue of Artforum.
A photograph captioned ‘Breadwoman (Anna Homler), 1982’ appears on the issue’s cover; the image is by Susan Einstein. Hahn’s article recounts Homler’s first Breadwoman performance, in which the artist hollowed out a capacious boule from a local boulangerie, placed her face inside it, and undertook a “bread walk” around the farmers market near her Venice Beach apartment.
Breadwoman and Anna Homler also appeared at Dripping Festival in Sparta, New Jersey, in June 2026. A photograph from that event is credited to Sam Clarke.
