‘Alternative Palm Springs: Other Desert Architectures’ is on view at the Architecture and Design Center, Edwards Harris Pavilion, from 27 June 2026 through 4 January 2027.
The exhibition assembles unbuilt visions by prominent architects, off-grid countercultural designs, and private and public worlds created by the LGBTQ+ community during the twentieth century. Architectural models, drawings, photography and objects are drawn from the museum’s holdings and other local collections.
Among the material pictured in connection with the exhibition is E. Stewart Williams and Palm Springs Planning Collaborative’s ‘Model for Palm Springs Central Business District’ (1967).
Robert J. Kett, PhD, curated the exhibition, with research assistance by Frank Lopez. LGBTQ+ History & Archives of the Desert is the exhibition partner.
