‘Lake Verea: DarkRooms and Other Games’ remains on view at Palm Springs Art Museum’s Main Museum through September 13, 2026. The presentation, which opened May 9, is Lake Verea’s first solo museum exhibition in the United States.
Lake Verea is the collaborative practice of Mexico City–based artists Francisca Rivero-Lake and Carla Verea, who have worked together since 2005. The exhibition brings together new work created specifically for Palm Springs Art Museum, focusing on Richard Neutra’s Kaufmann House and Albert Frey’s Aluminaire House™ and Frey House II.
The artists photographed the homes under full moonlight, using analog photography to reveal details and moods obscured by the desert sun. The exhibition also includes tactile frottage works, described as “frottragraphy,” made by rubbing building surfaces, and self-portraiture.
Among the works presented are ‘Touching Architecture: House of Tomorrow, Come On In’ (2025), ‘Dark Rooms: Frey House II, Us As Eyes’ (2024), and ‘Wild Nights: Frey House II, Pink On Pink’ (2024). Mimi Zeiger is the exhibition’s guest curator.
‘Lake Verea: DarkRooms and Other Games’ is part of Palm Springs Art Museum’s A+D Initiative and Q+ Art initiative.
