The Buenos Aires Museum of Modern Art is preparing a winter holiday program of workshops, performances, creation labs and guided encounters designed for audiences of all ages. Under the banner 'Sueños del mar: vacaciones fantásticas', the museum says the schedule will run from 18 July to 2 August at its San Telmo address on Av. San Juan 350, with activities for children, teenagers, adults and families.
The museum’s agenda frames the initiative as a seasonal offering that brings together play, exploration and collective making. According to the program text, the activities are developed in dialogue with the exhibitions and projects grouped under 'Habitando el futuro', a line of programming tied to the museum’s 70th anniversary. The public-facing events are spread across two weeks rather than concentrated in one continuous block, with the museum listing the first week from 18 to 24 July and the second from 27 July to 2 August.
The lineup includes a broad mix of formats, from drawing and painting workshops to movement-based sessions, textile and costume-making, public tours and hands-on encounters with works from the collection. Among the activities listed are 'Colapso temporal', a participatory proposal developed by the Programa Casas de los Niños, Niñas y Adolescentes, and 'Movimiento invención: Tiempo de jugar', a laboratory-style space that uses collage and assemblage to imagine new beings, ecosystems and forms of coexistence.
Several sessions connect directly with specific exhibitions or works on view. 'Cuerpo pincel' invites children aged 6 to 11 and their families to explore abstract works from the museum’s collection through movement and color. 'Bioformas', a watercolor workshop led by artist Ariel Cusnir, takes inspiration from 'Desde el origen', the large mural by Cusnir in the museum hall. Other events engage with 'Océano interior', 'Naturaleza arquitecta' and 'Ana Gallardo: Materiales para la memoria', extending the holiday program through different parts of the museum’s current exhibition landscape.
The museum is also using the winter break to stage a series of public encounters that foreground artists and curators. A guided visit to 'Moderno y MetaModerno: Edición 70 Aniversario' is scheduled for 23 July with Franco Chimento, Nicolás Cuello and Raúl Flores, and the cycle 'La obra está presente' will feature 'Pan III' by Víctor Grippo, presented by Claudio Iglesias and Luciana Sáez. The source text notes that Grippo made the work in a context marked by Argentina’s return to democracy and links it to his investigations into living materials and the natural world.
Other offerings are built around family participation and creative fabrication. 'Vestidos para la ocasión' draws on the universe of Sergio De Loof to propose inventive costume design, while 'Criaturas mágicas del océano' asks children and families to make puppets imagined as inhabitants of the sea. The second week adds 'Travesía fluorescente', a drop-in creative space inspired by 'Océano interior', along with workshops such as 'Las tres ecologías', 'Montaje Teatro Físico', 'Gabinete de curiosidades' and 'Mutantes del Sur'. The museum lists the activities as free, with some requiring advance registration and others open without sign-up.
