Brigitte Clavette will discuss the ideas and working process behind art made during her residency at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton, New Brunswick, in a free bilingual talk on September 24, 2026. The program will be presented in two sessions, offering audiences the choice of an English or French presentation.
Clavette is identified by the gallery as its Artist in Residence for May. During the residency, she drew inspiration from the Beaverbrook’s collection, including Graham Sutherland’s 'Helena Rubenstein'. Her September talk will focus on the relationship between that collection-based research and the work she produced at the gallery.
The English-language session is scheduled for 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by the French-language session from 7 to 8 p.m. Both sessions will take place in the RBC and Education Centre at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. The gallery’s newsletter advises visitors to enter through the education doors and identifies the event as taking place in the RBC room.
No registration is required, and admission is free. The program is part of the Beaverbrook’s fall schedule, which also includes recurring public activities such as Open Studio and 'Let’s Talk Art!'. Open Studio, running from September 17 through December 20, provides materials and a bilingual facilitator for drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, textile work and other activities. Its Thursday evening sessions are intended for adults aged 16 and over, while Saturday morning sessions are open to families.
The talk comes during a wider period of exhibition and public programming at the gallery. 'Communities', a project of the Marion McCain Institute for Atlantic Canadian Art, is scheduled to run from September 12 through December 13 and brings together work by Guy Duguay, Letitia Fraser, Yvon Gallant and Nelson White. The exhibition considers community through portraits, family documentation and representations of Atlantic Canadian, Acadian and Indigenous cultural life.
The Beaverbrook Art Gallery, located at 703 Queen Street in Fredericton, presents exhibitions, collection displays and educational programs, and maintains a publicly searchable collection. Its fall calendar lists the Clavette event for September 24 as a single-day program with separate English and French sessions, rather than as an exhibition opening or multi-day presentation.
