The Fukuoka Prefectural Museum of Art has announced lottery sales for a special ticket edition tied to the upcoming 'Eric Carle Exhibition', which will run from April 25 to July 27, 2026. The exhibition brings together original artwork and collages by Eric Carle, the author and illustrator best known for 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar', and the museum is using a pre-sale lottery system for a limited run of tickets that include an original handkerchief.

According to the exhibition’s official ticket page, the special handkerchief ticket is being sold through Ticket Pia only, by advance lottery rather than first-come, first-served sale. The application period runs from July 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. to July 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m., with results announced on July 31 at 6:00 p.m. The price is 5,300 yen, and the site notes that payment is by credit card only. General sales for the handkerchief ticket are not planned.

The ticket includes an original design handkerchief made in collaboration with FEILER, the German brand known for its chenille woven textiles. The page says the handkerchief design is exclusive to the exhibition, and that the yellow border version is limited to the merchandise-with-ticket offering. Ticket holders are instructed to exchange the special item at the exhibition shop during the run of the show.

The museum has also outlined standard admission and a broader set of ticket options for the Fukuoka venue. General admission is listed at 2,000 yen for adults, 1,500 yen for university and vocational school students, 1,000 yen for junior and senior high school students, and 600 yen for children aged four to elementary school level. Children three and under may enter free when accompanied by a guardian. The page also states that visitors with certain disability or medical certificates, and one accompanying caregiver, are admitted free.

The exhibition’s ticket page describes a series of timed and untimed admission choices, with date-specific tickets prioritized on weekends, public holidays, and during the final days of the run from July 22 to July 26. Online ticket sales for general admission began on February 25, 2026, and tickets can also be purchased at the museum ticket counter from April 25, the exhibition opening day. The exhibition ticket also allows access to the museum’s MOT Collection, except during the museum’s closure from April 25 to April 27.

In addition to the handkerchief edition, the site lists several limited-edition ticket products connected to the exhibition, including catalog-bound tickets and an acrylic stand ticket featuring 'Saturday's Caterpillar'. It also notes that the catalogue presents all exhibited works in full color and that some ticket-linked goods will be sold separately in the exhibition shop if stock remains. For the museum, the lottery sale adds an early layer of anticipation to a show that will bring Carle’s distinctive painted papers and picture-book imagery to Fukuoka from late April through late July 2026.
