The Museum of Modern Art, Saitama, has begun the second display period of ‘Quiet Beauty: All of Komura Settai’, an exhibition devoted to the work of Japanese artist Komura Settai. The museum announced that the latter period opened on August 18, following a scheduled changeover of the exhibition’s contents.
According to the museum’s notice, the first display period ended on August 16. Installation work took place on August 17, with more than half of the works replaced before the exhibition reopened to visitors the following day. The change allows the presentation to show a substantially different selection from its opening phase.
The museum illustrated the changeover with a photograph of an installation memo posted during the work. The note reads, in Japanese, ‘Remove everything from this wall,’ indicating the extent of the reinstallation in at least one section of the galleries.
The exhibition’s Japanese title, ‘密やかな美 小村雪岱のすべて’, can be rendered as ‘Quiet Beauty: All of Komura Settai’. Its framing presents the project as an extensive examination of Settai’s work, while the two-part display structure makes the replacement of works a central feature of the viewing schedule.
